Getting into Vietnam is easier than ever, but rules do change. Here’s your essential 2025 update for all things Vietnam visa, with details for UK, US, Australian, Canadian, and EU travelers.
E-Visa (Most Travelers Use This!)
- Most ASEAN, Japan, Korea, and selected European countries: 15–45 days visa-free.
- Apply online: Vietnam Government E-Visa Portal.
- Fee: $25 USD, single entry; $50 USD, multiple entry
- Validity: 90 days, single or multiple entries
- Processing: 3 working days (sometimes a bit more during busy periods)
- Where valid: All international airports, most land and sea ports
Visa Exemptions (No Visa Needed!)
- UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway: 45 days visa-free
- Japan, South Korea, Russia: 45 days visa-free
- Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Laos, Cambodia: 30 days visa-free
Other Western countries (including the US, Australia, and Canada): E-visa required
A broader visa-free initiative starts August 15, 2025, through August 14, 2028, including countries such as Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia—allowing up to 45 days stay. (Vietnam Tourism)
Visa on Arrival
- Still possible but requires pre-approval letter.
- Collected at airports in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang.
Where to Apply for a Visa
- E-visa: Apply online before arrival
- Embassy/Consulate: Only needed for special cases (long stays, work/study)
- Stay up to 90 days.
Land vs. Air Arrival
- E-visa is valid at all major airports and land crossings.
- Be sure to enter at the border point you put on your application—if you change plans, you may need a new e-visa.
Extensions & Overstays
- Tourist visas can sometimes be extended, but rules change often—ask Baktrax or check with your hotel on arrival.
- Overstays incur fines; always renew in advance.

- Passport valid 6+ months
- Printed e-visa approval letter
- Onward or return ticket
- USD $25–50 depending on visa type.
